DALLAS, May 21, 2014 — Snowball Express, which provides service and support to children of the nation’s fallen military heroes, today announced that the Liquidation Channel (LC), a home-shopping network, will hold a special fundraising program on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th, and will donate $1 to Snowball Express for every item purchased through the network that day. The network has committed to a minimum donation of $20,000.
As announced earlier this spring, Highland Capital Management will match donations made to Snowball Express up to $1 million through Memorial Day, May 26, 2014. That means every dollar donated by the network will have double the impact for Snowball Express. The event is being held on the last day of the challenge period, providing donors one last opportunity to make their donation double.
Liquidation Channel (LC) is a 24/7 home-shopping network headquartered in Austin, Texas. The network sells colored stones, diamonds, precious metals, and a variety of luxury goods and innovative products and broadcasts to over 120 million households in North America. The network makes giving back a fundamental component of its programming and has held similar programs with TanzaniteOne for the Tanzanite Foundation.
“We’re thrilled the Liquidation Channel is making such a generous donation. As we reach the end of the challenge period, we’re hoping to meet the $1 million mark, which, due to Highland’s generosity, could provide our organization with $2 million to support even more Gold Star kids across the country,” said Francis Kern, Executive Director of Snowball Express. “We thank the network for helping us reach our goal.”
“When we heard about Snowball Express’s mission to serve the children of our fallen military service members, we knew we wanted to help,” said LC’s President, Gerald Tempton. “We believe supporting the families of our fallen military heroes is very important. We hope this Memorial Day our family members will partake in this special fundraiser for Snowball Express.”
During the challenge grant celebrities such as Gary Sinise and Ellen DeGeneres have provided generous donations along with donors around the country.
Snowball Express brings Gold Star children, such as Myles Eckert and his sister, Marlee, together from all over the world for a four-day life-changing experience that provides a fun, nurturing environment that makes each child feel special and gives them an opportunity to share their feelings about losing someone so precious, their parent. More than 2,500 children have attended events since Snowball Express was founded in 2006.
